I could not have predicted these moments years ago

my parents are out of town again and as is the routine i get stuck trekking my kids 40 minutes to feed their cat. i dont care that my brother is deathly sick, laid out on bed, and has documented real doctors appointments he has been to, i think he is faking just to get out of taking care of moses! (joking, i love you bub) going to my old house is always a trip. the drive there i am always overwhelmed with nostalgia and memories flood my mind and it gets me mostly happy, but sometimes sad. do i really have to launch into the former best friend who still snubs me story? *heart break* the good and the bad, the ugly and the pretty, marysville is where the formative years of my growing up happened. the kids played outside alone and i went in to print something off of the computer - let me interject here that they have 2+ acres of open land surrounded by woods, they weren't going anywhere and there was plenty to keep them occupied. to sit quietly in my once high school bedroom now computer room was interesting. again, all the memories good and bad come up. a few minutes later the door opens and in scamper my two little kids. it was the first time i can remember the three of us being in that room together. olive points to my old stereo and i oblige her, the station still tuned to my favorite station and it even found some old cds. never in my wildest teenage dreams could i have imagined cutting a rug with my two kids in that room someday.

olive is doing really well transitioning into her own bed. like, alarmingly well compared to how auggie did from his crib to a bed. now THAT was an ordeal. one that wasn't hysterical just drawn out over succcch a long time. olive took to the toddler bed very easily, in fact a few nights a week as she's falling asleep in our bed (wherein i will move her upon falling asleep) she sits up and points to her bed indicating that she's moving on to greener pastures. BURN! she sleeps there all night, but i still nurse her once a night usually around 4-5 am. no biggie. one night i found her sleeping UNDER her bed. she must have fallen (more like slid, because i have very tuned ears to anything going on with my kids/in the house) out of bed and then just laid there. last night she was sleeping in a kneeling position with only her head and arms on the bed. silly baby.

olive has the worst diaper rash i've ever dealt with thus far in parenthood. like, horrible bloody mess. today my friend rachel gave me some disposable diapers and im going to give them a try with some butt paste and see how we fair. i've tried everything else i can think of with the cloth.

The image of you dancing around your childhood room with your babies brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful.

the rash could be yeast??? my girls in cloth would get yeast when it was really hot out. if it is do a vinegar rinse on your cloth but don't use them until it is cleared up with yeast cream (if you want organic try the mother love brand diaper rash/thrush or you could use traditional creams) good luck!!

alright-i have several comments (as i've slacked in my blog stalking as of late). 1)awesome fest seems, well, um, awesome. rocky marathon-geez, that's once a month in my house. my husband rotates that with the godfather and lonesome dove. 2)all those peaches! amazing deliciousness in a tub! 3)childhood best friends who shun you. me too : (. what's that about anyway? i recount the old days, did i make fun of her teased bangs too much? so hard to know 4) diaper rash from cloth diapers. levi has a really bad one too right now. i don't think all the pee was getting out of the diapers and it was reappearing when he'd pee and then burn. i tried to strip the diapers last night and did a vinegar rinse. if you have it, buttermilk baths work great (or powdered milk added to the bath water-a cheaper alternative). so i must know- what were you guys dancing to? a little yaz, perchance?

you could also do a lavender-vinegar rinse on the dipes. one quart of white vinegar with one tablespoon of lavender essential oil. and, you might want to try bentonite clay on olive's fanny. make it into a loose paste with water and a few drops of lavender EO. apply it to the affected area and let it dry and then crack off. just let her go diaper free until it all cracks off.

hope you find something that works.

Honker- I never thought about getting out of caring for Mosey while M+D are gone. But the good lord does work in mysterious ways... Yes going home and being there alone is oddly peaceful but also a snapshot of growing up. That long closet with all our old things is always strange and fun to poke around in... Bub

mandi - i believe the rash is two fold, one she ate something very acidic (tomatoes or pineapple) and the diapers need stripped. ill work on the latter now that she's taking a break in disposables. oh and we were dancing to steve miller band's "rockin me baby"

chelsea - that lavender sounds awesome! im a big lavender person

bub - are you feeling even a teensy bit better?

Best cure for diaper rash ever= some vinegar in the kids' bath water and let them soak and play and the rash will be MUCH better. Use 1 cup of vinegar in a fairly full bath. Works every time.

Poor olive!! something that may also help a little--when washing off that little tushy between diaper changes, using a weak solution of baking soda and plain water helps change the Ph of the moisture clinging to her skin, which will help with the urine acidity.

Glad Olive is taking to her bed so well! (it may not last though, once the novelty wears off. Once Noah decided the dark was scary, we had our bunk buddy back).
