squirrels and skids

jenny is going to strangle the squirrels that are digging up her bulbs. oh yes. it will happen.

so it took 3 1/2 yrs (almost to the day) but it finally happened! augustine told a lie. two actually confirmed, another highly suspected. here's what keeps happening. augustine was potty trained fully over a year ago and like HORRAY! but the one area that he just can't seem to get is that he takes of his underwear and pants every single time he wants to use the potty. and like, who care right? two things, one without fail the boy comes down with his underwear inside out and backwards. EVERY TIME. its comical! he claims "that's how i likes them!" but really i think he just gets them all wound around his ankles when he's trying to take them off and they wind up inside out. unsure how they consistently wind up backwards as well though. the second point, and really this is the crux of the frustration - shield your eyes oh, squeamish, non-parent types, when he poops he isnt superfantastico about wiping. he has his own special wipes and everything but again, not great at getting the full monty removed. so then he sits down on the carpet to put on his pants and underwear (backwards! inside out!) and guess what remains on my rug!?

P O O P

luckily i have two bathroom rugs so i can switch them out when one inevitably gets marked up but just ugh, how annoying! i do not enjoy switching rugs every other day! one of my greatest fears is that someone is going to just pop by and want to use my bathroom and be utterly grossed out at the skids on my rug! ridiculous? probably. still feeling this way? definitely. so back to the lie. every time he has to go to the restroom on his way there i say something like "so what are you going to do when you get up there?" use my step stool, wipe, and flush! "and what AREN'T you going to do?" take off my pants and undies! and wouldnt you know it he comes down with them inside out and backwards exclaiming YAY mommy! i didn't take them off! he did this yesterday and the day before. the second one sent him off for naptime without lunch.

the second suspected lie wasnt able to be confirmed simply because i walked into the room with augustine holding his keys (a compilation of keys we no longer use) and olive crying. he said "olive hit her head on my keys". nice.

hehehe Jenny, this is Tiffany, Eric's wife, I am an admitted fan of your blog and check daily to every other day to see what's new with your outrageously cute kids. We too had problems to the T of every thing Augustine is doing. Except the lie, and poop on the rug. It took until we started prepping him for Kindergarten to get the pants and undies to stay on. Long LONG battle. The only advice I can give, and believe me I wish there was more, is to tell him he CAN'T do that at school. Although, it might not work if you are still thinking about homeschooling (something Eric and I are still discussing). Cody has since told lies and it has gotten him soap in the mouth a few times. I swore I would never do that but ya know once your a parent the "I will never do what my parents did" sort of somehow flies out the window...lol.

Keep up the good work, I think you are an amazing mother and it will come, just not as fast as we want it too. hehehehe

tiffany - oh there is nothing like being a parent to make you eat your words! i have sooo many instances where i said (pre-children) that i will or won't do ____ and then of course i do a total 180. so far we are thinking of foregoing the homeschooling. there is a really nice preschool near us and we are in talks about sending him there next year. oh my word if that boy makes skids on a public bathroom floor ill just die of embarrassment!!

Still a huge fan of the kids Honk... seriously (find someone who can go 10 rounds with me on loving those adorables)... but YO! That's wack-a-mole! Holy Macaroni! Sweet buh-donk-a-donk! Wowzers! I had no idea... Still that seems like a fixable problem (we sure hope so in Dublin) 3.5 big ones- that's awesome. I'm doing a "stevie" for him right now. Bug

Hi Jenny, Lindsay from LJ here. I came across your blog and decided to play a bit of catch up as we have been out of touch. I wanted to comment on this particular entry as I go through the same skid mark issue with Justice... and he is almost 4 1/2. Unfortunately I have no advice on this subject as I am still figuring this out as well, but apparently it is very common. Dear Logan had this same issue as a small boy! Best of luck, and please be in touch if you find any solutions. Hope all is well.

lindsay - that seems to be the general consensus - that "boys will be boys"! i wonder, do girls have these kinds of problems? i havnt heard much by way of girl-skid problems, esp on carpets! us mamas need to have a powwow about this and come up with a solution. save our carpets!!
