bum leg

something is wrong with dolores' front right leg. in the middle of the night last night she started yelping and so david threw back the covers and went to see if i dont know, she had to randomly go to the bathroom or something. he comes back up 10 minutes later saying she won't put any weight on one of her legs. we fall back to sleep but hear her periodically whimpering throughout the night, david checks on her a few more times. today i wake up and sure enough she still won't put any weight on that leg. i have NO idea what is going on. i thought it might be because she fell into a hole yesterday at the garden (while running) but she spent HOURS playing, walking, running, and romping with us and other dogs in the afternoon and evening before she was crated. and it really sucks because we've had some bills come in that are atypical (like our new cable, they charge you two months and for the installation and rental fee of the box - it wound up being +$200) so we are really low on funds so i can't pop her over to the vet until late next week at the earliest when david gets paid on wednesday. FUDGE. i feel so bad for her! it is definitely her "elbow" area because upon palpation she winces and nips. what the heck in the world?

Maybe try calling the vet and explaining the situation--our vet has graciously worked w/ us on bill payment before. Hope the puppers feels better soon.

I thought it might be a sliver or something stuck in the pads of her foot, that happened to my dog once. But if it seems to be her elbow area then I guess it wouldn't be that.
Dogs can have chewable baby aspirin, if she's really in pain.

that picture is adorable. poor Delores though. :(

i was flipping through Good Housekeeping the other day and thought of you, as they included a blurb about guerillagardening.org and a recipe for seed balls.

She may have twisted it. Give her an asprin: 5-10mg per pound of her weight.

today she has much ambulation. i noticed some swelling around her "elbow" area but today she is doing better and can bear a little weight on it. still mystified about what happened exactly but it looks like she's on the mend. good tip about the baby asprin for the future guys!

Yeah, the baby aspirin is always great....a lot of times after a lot of hard playing they have swelling in joints if they pulled something, that you may not notice til later. Really a waste of a vet visit because they'll tell you aspirin and keep her mellow ( I know, not easy with a puppy). Give her a few days to recover, if in a week she is still hurting then you can follow up

(ex vet tech) :)

also try to have her rest a little, to give her a change to heal. Remember I had to get my dogs ACL repaired? NOT CHEAP. so if you can keep the puppy chill, thats a good thing.
