across the universe

just this moment i was scrubbing my stove top and this song came on. two things happened. first i dropped my scrubber because i realized that today is john lennons birthday. he would have been 67 if you can believe that. the second thing that happened was that i heard the familiar lyrics to this song and they fell on me with new meaning. nothing's gonna change my world. nothing's gonna change my world. im still processing the idea of giving up my house, my independent life, and adjusting to so so much newness but my world is what i make it and nothing will change the world we've built between david and i. the surroundings yes, how we spend our time yes, but our World no.

how did i manage to do that?
no, it wasn't purposeful!
did you get a notice about that test when augustine was around 1?

the last time augustine went to the pediatrician (1 yr old - the last well-check we attended) we were told about the lead testing and we allowed it. at the time we also found it sort of odd since we couldn't imagine where he would have been exposed to it. i believe it is just a finger prick if memory serves, not pleasant but not the end of the world either. if you dont want it just refuse it. there is nothing a doctor can do to MAKE you do anything and i cant imagine there would be any repercussions for refusal. vaccines are one thing but running a test is another.

Thanks for your input. i guess i just feel rebellious about it. its about the last think i expected to see in the mail you know?
i should just be objective about it. our house IS really old, so it would be a good idea to have Ian tested.

and with the increase in toy recalls for lead contamination i dont think it's the worst thing in the world to consider doing. just my lil $.02

in new jersey (we're in va now) if you refuse to get lead testing they send cps out and do it on the spot.

because a lot of families come from rented apartments - where the paint is just paint on paint on paint - it's totally possible.

our home was built in 42 and has many layers of paint.
if i'm rational about it i see the need.
i have twinges of 12 year oldness that tell me to rebel against what the Gov tells me to do.
