thanksgiving pre-entry, sweetness

wednesday night we are staying the night at my parents house and im going to bake pies and cookies for thanksgiving lunch. before said lunch we are getting up as a family and delivering free meals to homeless? impoverished folks? who knows! who cares! people who have been designated as in need of a free thanksgiving meal. im really glad we can take the kids with us because i wasnt really thinking they would do well in a setting like a soup kitchen/shelter for prolonged amounts of time.

today i am brewing up ideas for the craft/goodie exchange i signed up for. to get some inspiration im experimenting with some goodies to see how they might hold up in transport today. im sure my husband will happily gobble up my experiments. there is one recipe (that i can't post, nor even allude to since my two exchangers are on my friends list!) that i really love making but they aren't ship-able so im trying to work that out if i can before the big trip to the post office.

olive is a nudist. are you surprised? does anyone get surprised at her hijinx anymore? at least twice a day she will sneak beside me and yell TA DA! and run off naked as a jaybird. she is getting ready to potty train, i can feel it. whenever she is stinky she takes off her diaper and every day she tells me she has to potty. when i put her on it it's obvious she's just gone. better than her taking off her diaper during nap time and peeing the bed. OH WAIT THAT HAPPENED TODAY IN MY BED. oy vey that child. love her to pieces but sit still for a minute! :)

augustine is in the children's choir at church and they are performing "go tell it on the mountain" on christmas eve. we've been listening and practicing and ok i've got to be gut honest here. i kinda sorta (but really really really) hope he is that kid who's like HI MOM!!! when he's supposed to be singing. listen, i dont get a traditional paycheck for being a stay at home mom. no one hands me a stack of bills or pats me on the back at the end of the day, week, whatever and says "way to raise those human beings lady!" so what im saying is my paycheck is in the form of stuff like that. im hoping they teach him a sweet new dance at choir practice too. (that video never gets old)

unrelated but um, hi. be mine

1) craft exchange?! i am so jealous.

2) unrelated, but do you have any tips on re-stretching the ears? i took mine out in mexico and now i want to put in my 1/2" plugs... so wee compared to yours...

rachael - are they totally closed? if not i would put as large jewelry as can fit without causing stress on your ears and then slowly threading smaller gauge jewelry through the hole with it over time, or getting some ear weights, or using tape to slowly add to the diameter of the plugs and then reinserting. personally im not a big fan of taper stretching.

ah, the nudist! the more i read, the more i think olive & adeline would get along great. addy has really taken to streaking through our house lately as well...(but may not be close to potty training, alas).

My mom use to make a very similar brownie to that every year. She would use a combination of walnuts and pecans. I am not sure why she called it Jewish sheet cake...7 layer brownies sound a bit more accurate.

Oh, As my kids got to be about 3, we would go down to the fruit of the vine "game and cards" on Sunday afternoons. Basicly, we would mingle with the homeless and play games, chat, and play cards with them at the fotv building. Very layed back for kids. They loved it and it wasn't "too much" for them or for me to handle them. Just an idea. Our small group use to do it about 2 times per month.
